Megadungeon Book Club 12: Castle Triskelion 9
I'm taking part in Studio315b's Megadungeon Book Club! We're looking at Castle Triskelion by Tim Stypinski for the next couple weeks. Studio315b compiled the rest of the dungeon and we've been reading along with that.
Check out my post from last week here.
Inner Ward, 4th Floor
Great! We have a wandering faction that goes to other floors, love to see it. Hate to see it referenced in the later floor, where GMs are unlikely to see it until the time for necessary foreshadowing has passed, but we take what we can get, especially taking into account how the dungeon was constructed (individual posts for each room). The actual faction (Werewolves) is one I would rather skip due to their inclination towards "evil acts" and hunting down humans for sustenance and conversion.
Why aren't the Carnivorous Wizard Apes a faction? They seem like a faction, dress like a faction, and could feasibly interact with several of the rooms on the east side of the 4th floor.
There's a room here that allows anyone inside to rapidly "travel" forward in time, 1 hour per 1 day. It's explicitly the working space of Patrizio Triskelion. Why isn't he here? It would be great to have the PCs interact with a Triskelion that likely has the whole story on the family, knows all the lore. We might get a more interesting Werewolf faction led by Marlowe in service (or perhaps imprisoning!) Patrizio. Missing opportunity. Instead the effect is essentially a throwaway effect that only serves to potentially damage players if they break a window in the room.
Inner Ward, 5th Floor
Well, here's where (some of) the apes live I suppose. Wish the Archmage was actually written to be in his study.
Inner Ward Aboveground Wrap-Up
The rooms in the Inner Ward since the Ground Floor have consistently been pretty good individually, but fall flat when looked at in a dungeon context. The lack of connection between individual rooms makes these ones very easy to adapt for other dungeons though, so that's a plus.
