Infernal Pact

Play Report: Trial of Copper (5e conversion)

I ran the Trial of Copper dungeon out of Grande Temple of Jing today at an event hosted by a local org. It was a lot of fun! You can see my initial thoughts on the dungeon here from MDBC a couple weeks ago.

I converted it to 5e on the request of the host and all of the tables ended up running it for consistency. My initial thoughts on it held up for the most part: it feels like an attempt at a puzzle dungeon for a build-game type crowd, or perhaps an intro-level attempt at offering problems that require creative solutions. In play, I did end up needing to shore up a few of the shallower areas (why can't you talk to any of the creatures?), but mostly ran it as is. I made a checklist for the levers to track which ones were up and down and that made the players pretty happy every time they got to check off another box.

I'm including my conversion doc here if you wanna give it a shot. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to try out a less combat-focused dungeon in 5e or if you need a puzzle dungeon one shot for a con. It ran for about 2 hours with newer players.
