Infernal Pact

Weekly J3H Campaign Starts 16: Flying Castle Banner

I'm making 3 hexes and a town every week of 2024 in the style of Chgowiz's Just 3 Hexes format. Check the J3H tag to see all entries in the series.

Infernal Pact

(Hex tiles used in the image are from Zeshio's Pixel Hex Tileset, the map was created using Hex Kit)

Campaign: Trade is returning to the burned kingdom of Carrels, and change with it. The knights of Castle Banner whisper to each other of putting King Banner out of his misery, and raising a new leader from within their own ranks. Treasure hunters and pirates come from near and far to loot the wealth of Carrels, bringing with them timber, steel, and new ideas to rebuild the lost kingdom.

Homebase (1801): Flying Castle Banner - The former royal palace of the human kingdom of Carrels, now floating a quarter of a mile off the ground along with all the land within 100 yards of its walls. King Banner traded his sons and his lucidity to Titania, Demon Queen of Summer, in exchange for the safety of himself and his people during the dragon attacks of the Burning. His griffon-riding knights keep the peace and defend who's left as all the king's viziers try to find a way to free King Banner from his wailing despair.

Location 1 (1701): Ruins of Kellton - The remains of the capital of Carrels, now a gleaming wreck. The famous glass sculptures of Kellton have turned to shimmering half-transparent pools of glass all over the burned structures, prompting enterprising treasure hunters to chip off the most colorful bits and sell them as relics. A few have been spreading rumors of a living stained-glass golem that prowls the center of town, the capture and sale of which would be truly priceless.

Location 2 (2001): Dragon's Maw - The location where the majority of the dragons appeared when the Burning started, and where the majority left to after they were done destroying and looting the realm. The site itself is a large pit mine that opens up into a tunnel system large enough to fly through, lined with char and soot. The knights of Castle Banner speak often of a retaliatory strike down the tunnels, but nothing has ever come of it.

Location 3 (2002): Fort Lents - A flooded former river fort, fallen into disrepair once the necessary yearly maintenance stopped getting done. Filled now with sharkfolk pirates who have come upriver from the Crimson Sea to the east, their low-draft coastal ships pulled up in the fort's former courtyard. The sharkfolk pay well for preserved meat and low-weight luxury goods, they bring mithral goods for trade from the merfolk forges beneath the sea.
