Weekly J3H Campaign Starts 25: Three Hills
I'm making 3 hexes and a town every week of 2024 in the style of Chgowiz's Just 3 Hexes format. Check the J3H tag to see all entries in the series.
(Hex tiles used in the image are from Zeshio's Pixel Hex Tileset, the map was created using Hex Kit)
Campaign: Tragedy looms around every corner in Three Hills. Dark clouds gather to the east and west, rolling across the land with thunderous arguments in their wake. The question for any enterprising sellsword is this: is the worst of the storm over with the death of Lord Sliftery, or is this merely the opening salvo?
Homebase (1125): Three Hills - A mountain town ruled by three clans who pool resources to survive in the harsh landscape. Of late, the Marssitonne and Lookarro patriarchs have conspired to get rid of the third clan, the Sliftery family, after the tragic deaths of the ruler and heir of the family in a hunting accident. Lady Sliftery knows of this secret agenda and firmly believes that her husband and daughter were killed, she's dispatched a trio of redcap assassins to retaliate against the other two houses.
Location 1 (1225): Green Canyon - The ground is ripped and torn here, and spires made from dark gray rock tower over the lush green mossy floor. The moss hides a variety of fauna found only in this region, but the mosswinder snake is the most famous due to its immense size and proclivity for attacking trade caravans to eat the draft horses. Bandits often hide around the spires, using the fear of the giant snakes as cover from pursuers.
Location 2 (1324): Crooners' Rock - A cavernous echo-filled cave system known as the lair for several manticores. The creatures sing off-key ballads to their lost loves in their warped voices, giving the caves (and the hills around) their characteristic sound. It's said that while the creatures are vicious and cruel, they will always help someone who comes to them truly heartbroken.
Location 3 (1325): Eternal Harbor - A mine shaft on the surface quickly gives way to ancient cut stone and the remains of an expansive harbor, now buried under hundreds of feet of rock and stone. Some protection spell has preserved the harbor since apparently just after whatever befell it -- the wooden ships are covered in dust but not rotting, the bodies of the sailors and fisherfolk lie slumped where they fell but they do not decompose. Miners from nearby Three Hills initially stripped the place for easy loot, but the gold and jewels were immediately brought back after they began emitting ominous purple smoke after being brought into the sun.
